  • Boulder Rotary Radio Auction Image
Every year the  Rotary Club of Boulder (in the town of Kalgoorlie/Boulder, the heart of the goldfields in Western Australia) in conjunction with Radio West and Home Building Society stage a very special event.

A radio auction.

The auction is used to raise money for needy causes and it's success over the last sixteen years has assisted various worthwhile causes with many $100,000s.

The Rotarians of Boulder secure pledges from local bussiness for vast array of products and services. Radio West then kindly provide a Sunday morning of air time for the auction. Listeners then phone in to the station and bid/buy various items live on air. Some items are used as progressive lots and are bid on throughout the morning with the highest bidder finally winning the lot at the end of the auction.

The application developed by Majikworks tracks all auction lots, categories, donors, bids and rotarians prior to and during the auction. The reliability of this application, while only basically used once per year, is critical.

It is a multiuser application, with some users entering sales details while others are tracking progressive bids. All the information is monitored in real-time in the studio so that the Auctioneer knows precisely where the auction is up to at any point in time.
The application was initially developed in Magic for DOS and in 2001 was re-developed in Magic's eDeveloper.
